Defending Sex Workers, People Profiled as Sex Workers, and Victims of Trafficking

Presented by the Sex Workers Project of the Urban Justice Center.

1. Learn about legal issues facing people charged with prostitution-related offenses, including:
  * collateral consequences of prostitution convictions in housing, immigration, and employment;
  * profiling and police misconduct; and
  * immigration remedies available to victims of trafficking. 

2. Participate in a strategy session around best practices for litigating prostitution-related charges with experts
  * Ed McGowan and Phillipe Knab of the Bronx Defenders;
  * Linda Poust-Lopez of the Legal Aid Society of Manhattan; and 
  * David Conn of the Queens Legal Aid Society. 

3. Discuss pending legislation affecting sex workers, the Manhattan DA race, and current trends in vice and anti-trafficking operations.

Lunch and refreshments provided!
This training is open to public defenders, 18(b) panel members, police misconduct attorneys, housing attorneys, immigration attorneys, and other members of the legal community interested in the issues facing sex workers, people profiled as sex workers, and victims of trafficking.
