Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and
Senator Charles Schumer
Thank them for taking a strong stand against Domestic Violence
US Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer have called for NYS Senator Hiram Monserrate to resign. They have both come down on the side of justice and respect for women, not only in New York State, but around the country. Domestic violence has long been a systemic problem that has plagued the lives of women and cannot be ignored. We MUST continue to demand Monserrate's removal until justice is served.
Please thank Senator Gillibrand and Senator Schumer for their courageous stance. Politics aside, we are urging all Democrats in the New York State Senate to follow the lead of our US Senators and first New York State Senator Liz Krueger who leads the charge in the State Senate, strongly urging Monserrate to resign or face the consequences.
Senator Gillibrand said: "Domestic violence has no place in our society, and certainly has no place in the State Legislature. A court of law has found Sen. Monserrate guilty of domestic violence, and I believe he should resign immediately. If he does not resign, then the Senate should move to expel him. We must take a hard line against violence toward women in our society."
Senator Schumer said "I think Hiram Monserrate should do the right thing for the State of New York, the State Senate, and his constituents and resign," Schumer said.
Thank Senator Killibrand Senator Schumer for speaking out.
