URGENT - Email Sen. Reid NOW to include immigrant women in health care reform, put SA2991 into Mgr's Amendment to HR3590.

December 17, 2009
As Congress continues to work on health care reform, we have been presented with new challenges and opportunities almost every day.  We've called, we've lobbied, and we've rallied, but it's not over yet - now we must demand that the Senate include immigrant women as part of health care reform!

For too long, legal permanent residents have faced a five-year waiting period to participate in Medicaid.  Medicaid reduces financial barriers that exist to provide essential reproductive health care services for low-income women. The exclusion of new immigrants from Medicaid is not only unjust, but also bad public health policy.

Senator Robert Menedez (D-NJ) has introduced an amendment to eliminate this waiting period, and we must demand its inclusion!

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

1. CONTACT Senator Harry Reid:
•    Call Senator Reid at 202.224.5556.   Tell him that the five-year bar is unjust and bad public health policy, and ask that Senator Menendez's amendment to eliminate the five-year bar is included in the Manager's Amendment.  Please note, however, due to the urgency of this issue, phone lines have been jammed for the past few days - keep trying!
•    Click HERE to email him!
•    KEEP TRYING! Whether it be an online form, email, or contacting his staff don't stop trying until your message is heard!

2. SPREAD THE WORD. Tell your friends and family to do the same. Also, don't forget to spread the word on Facebook and Twitter!
