Young feminists strive to Stop Stupak/Pitts & other Campus Feminist Updates

Thanks to Feminist Majority Foundation for inviting me and Meghan Shalvoy, another Young Feminist Task Force member, to the Lobby Day against Stupak-Pitts on November 18, and their presence during the Dec 2 lobby day.  Both Hunter College (my original connection to FMF) and Meghan's schools are mentioned below.

Sincerely,

HEALTHCARE REFORM UPDATE
Young feminists strive to Stop Stupak/Pitts
After having initially been caught off-guard by the drastic anti-choice amendment to the healthcare reform bill, feminists quickly sprung into action to prevent the codification of this de facto abortion insurance coverage ban.
The Feminist Majority Foundation joined a coalition of progressive groups known as the Coalition to Pass Healthcare Reform and Stop Stupak and participated in a massive lobby day on Capitol Hill on December 2.
Students from CUNY Hunter College, Stony Brook University, University of North Carolina - Greensboro, University of Maryland, American University, the George Washington University, and many more came to Washington to speak with their Senators and Represenatatives and rally for reproductive rights. Thousands more held call-in days, rallied at their Congressmembers' local offices, wrote letters to the editor, and circulated petitions.
Thanks to your hard work, the Senate version of the amendment, known as the Nelson/Hatch amendment, was defeated by a vote on December 9. This was a huge victory! The fight is not over, however, and we need to continue to pressure our Senators and Representatives on this issue to make sure Stupak/Pitts will not survive conference and end up in the final bill. Call your Congressmembers today!
