You'll hear a report on "The State of Roe and Reproductive Justice in 2010,", archival recordings from the movement that fought to legalize abortion and an update on the ongoing backlash against Roe, especially in the current healthcare reform bill. The show will also feature a worldwide feminst news segment and feminist music.

January 22 marks the 37th Anniversary of Roe v Wade, the landmark Supreme Court Decision of 1973 that legalized abortion in the United States. Each January 22, feminists and abortion rights supporters celebrate this as a great victory--as the Right Wing marches against this landmark decision in Washington DC and many other cities.

Before the passage of Roe, abortion was illegal in the United States and women seeking to terminate their pregnancies--if they had money, went overseas for the procedure--and if they did not, either tried to self-abort or went to often-unlicensed practitioners--resulting in innumerable maimings, traumas and deaths of women during those years.

The Right has fought to overturn Roe from 'day one' and is still fighting to do so and have introduced a plethora of obstacles to women accessing abortion--which we will be talking about in detail with our guests, as we assess the State of Roe in 2012--as well as the overall State of Reproductive Rights and Justice in this country.
