Councilmember Jessica Lapin in support of Congresswoman Maloney

Sent: March 8

Today, we celebrate International Women's Day. With all of the issues facing women in our state, our country and all across the world, it's never been more crucial to have leaders who are progressive and relentless in their support of the advancement of women.
That's why I'm proud to support Carolyn Maloney as our representative in Congress. She has consistently—and successfully—fought to expand opportunities for women, in everything from healthcare to jobs to education.
Please join me in supporting Carolyn's agenda and her work on behalf of New York's women and families.
Carolyn has been a trailblazer for women for decades. And she knows all know too well that despite all the progress we've made towards equality, there is still much work left to be done.
Women, here in New York, across the nation and around the world, are still fighting for the same rights as men. They still make less on the dollar than men do for the same work. They need much stronger protection from domestic violence and they need better access to and more options in healthcare.
I whole-heartedly support Carolyn Maloney for Congress because she will continue to advocate for:
  • Stopping the Cycle of Abuse. Carolyn fought to pass the Violence Against Women Act, and she also sponsored what has been hailed as the most critical anti-rape legislation ever considered by Congress, which provided funding for backlogged rape kits.
  • Ending Human Trafficking. No one has spoken out more loudly on this issue than Carolyn, and her bill to crack down on trafficking received bi-partisan support.
  • Equal Pay. With her help, the Lilly Ledbetter Act was passed, ensuring tougher enforcement of equal pay laws.
  • Women's Healthcare. Her efforts to secure Medicare funding for annual mammograms have been lauded across the country.
  • Supporting a Woman's Right to Choose. Carolyn has always supported a women' right to choose, and has consistently fought to expand options for women in reproductive health.
Carolyn Maloney's record in Congress is unquestioned. No one has been as committed an advocate for women's rights as her.
I hope you will join me in supporting Congresswoman Maloney. Click here to become a member of Women for Maloney.
Sincerely,
Jessica S. Lappin
