City Funding Campaign for Sexual Violence Initiative
Support an increase in funding in the 2011 budget for the Council’s Sexual Assault and Citywide Initiatives!
While City Council has already provided support to fight sexual violence and its acknowledgment of the impact upon all New York City residents. However, direct services for victims of sexual violence, community-based prevention initiatives and advocacy organizations that work to affect social change are significantly underfunded. In a city of 8 million people, the current funding provided by City Council reflects an investment of approximately five cents per person.
By supporting this campaign, you are asking City Council to:
* At the very least, make no cuts in the 2011 budget for sexual violence intervention and prevention.
* If possible, increase funding to 'a nickel and a dime' per constituent - an additional $800,000 citywide.
* Ideally, all Council Members will speak out about sexual violence with their constituents, such as writing about sexual violence issues in their district newsletters or sponsoring awareness events.
