The Maria Project is a groundbreaking solo theatre performance that surprises, provokes and invites the audience to unleash their inherited secrets and; while telling the story of a Spanish-American family's legacy with domestic violence. Featured in the upcoming Gloria Steinem-endorsed documentary Private Violence (2011 release), The Maria Project has been a seven year journey to give voice to Maria Salazar and all of the women who have lost their voice through this syndrome.

The Maria Project hopes this story will reach many families exposed or living within the generational syndrome of domestic violence. With this play; told through a daughter's voice; The Maria Project hopes to contribute to the unleashing of silence and shame around this topic; as well as educate the public about the myths and misunderstood legacy of this syndrome. Ms. Goheen states, "I hope I have written this story successfully so it gives voice to all women, children and families who have been affected or threatened by this syndrome within a family system."
