Meet the Young Feminists: David Benzaquen: Protecting Humans and Animals Alike

This is part of a new series of blog posts that will introduce different members of the National Organization for Women (NOW) – New York State – Young Feminist Task Force.  Today, I want to highlight David Benzaquen - one of our newest members  - who works hard to protect humans and animals alike.  I thought this was the perfect day to introduce David, since it happens to be his birthday!  Happy Birthday, David!

More about David:

  • went to American University and studied women and politics
  • worked with Emily’s List in High School and College to help elect pro-choice candidates
  • Received his MA from The New School in non-profit management
  • organized two separate take back the nights at The New School
  • was involved with animal-rights activism for three years with Farm Sanctuary
  • volunteered with Men Can Stop Rape
  • like a few of us, is vegan
  • works for NARAL Pro-Choice NY
  • wants you to sign Petition to End Deception
  • NARAL Pro-Choice NY is working with other organizations to legislate CPC’s (anti-choice centers who lie to women)
  • Legislation would require CPC’s to post signs that tell people what they provide (not medical information)
  • and legislation would require CPC’s to keep the info of the women confidential & not use it to turn their family/co-workers against them
  • city council vote coming up soon

Members like David make me proud to be part of this incredible task force.  Want to join us?  Just drop us a line at
