Panel Discussion: Gender and Genocides: Aspects of the Sexual Violation of Women during the Holocaust, moderated by Gloria Steinem

Brooklyn Museum, Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd floor
Sunday, March 20, 2 p.m.

Gloria Steinem will moderate a panel discussion featuring the co-editors of the groundbreaking book Sexual Violence against Jewish Women during the Holocaust, recently published by Brandeis University Press/University Press of New England. The program is one of several during March that mark the fourth anniversary of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. Dr. Sonja M. Hedgepeth, Dr. Rochelle G. Saidel, Nava Semel (author of And the Rat Laughed) and Maman Jeanne Kasongo L. Ngondo, President and Founder of the Shalupe Foundation, will speak about the book and its genesis as well as the current state of rape and genocide worldwide, asking: Can this new understanding of sexual violence during the Holocaust decrease and prevent sexual violence during other genocides? A book signing will follow the discussion. Please join us for a reception to mark the 4th anniversary of the Sackler Center in the EASCFA galleries following the discussion and book signing. Free with Museum admission.
