Roe v. Wade: We will never go back

Thirty-nine years ago on Jan. 22, the Supreme Court issued the Roe v. Wade decision, affirming women's fundamental right to self-determination. But today our rights are under attack as never before, and we are fighting back. Please help us ensure women's access to safe, legal abortion for generations to come.

Last year's ferocious attacks on women's reproductive rights, when states passed a record number of anti-abortion laws, were only a preview of what extremists are planning to roll out this year. They're aiming to build obstacles to accessing abortion care that are as dangerous as they are insulting:

• Sweeping refusal policies at the federal and state levels give medical providers the "right" to dictate women's access to reproductive health care -- akin to last year's U.S. House-passed bill that would have let hospitals refuse to perform even a life-saving abortion.

• Purposefully unrealistic Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers (TRAP) laws to drive women's health clinics out of business -- when 87 percent of counties already lack an abortion provider.

• Compassionless and often racist funding restrictions that force women and their families to go without groceries and other essentials in order to pay for birth control, abortion care and other needed reproductive health care.

NOW is determined to get the word out about what is at stake for women in this year's election, and you can help right now. Our chapters and grassroots leaders are activating their networks -- in person as well as through social media -- calling, emailing and visiting their elected representatives, recruiting feminists to run for office and working to elect those who will work for our issues.

With your help, women will never go back -- we will fight back and win.

For women's lives,
Terry O'Neill, President
National Organization for Women

P.S. Please give as generously as you can -- women's lives depend on it.
