Follow JOR @ & WBAI can be heard at 99.5 FM and streams live @
Housework and the unacknowledged and unpaid work of women actually holds up our economic system, according to brilliant thinker/organizer Selmla James, originator of the "Wages for Housework" campaign. In her new book Sex, Race and Class, a collection of her writings from 1952 to the present, she examines not only housework but such diverse topics as Caribbean nationalism, Jews fighting Zionism and the Occupy Wall Street movement–-managing to draw their meanings together into one connected vision! Joy of Resistance will be offering James' book, along with a CD of her recent interview with KPFK's Sonali Kohatkar to listeners as a gift for supporting WBAI.

The work of another great radical feminist thinker/activist, Shulamith Firestone, is experiencing a huge revival of interest since her death in August. Her 1970 feminist classic The Dialectic of Sex: The Case for Feminist Revolution, long out of print, is now so much in demand, that new copies are selling in the $500.00 to $700.00 range--and most booksellers are completely out of stock, even of used copies. But Joy of Resistance/WBAI has managed to find some used copies in good condition and will be offering a limited number of these to listeners who contribute to the station during our fund drive show.

We will also be offering a limited number of DVD's of the groundbreaking theater-piece The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler.

And of course we'll be bringing you our usual up-to-the-minute feminist analyses of current events.
