SAVI (Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program at Mount Sinai) will do a screening of "IT WAS RAPE," a documentary by Jennifer Baumgarden; a discussion will be moderated by Angela Fernandez, the outreach and training program coordinator for Mount Sinai's SAVI. Ms. Fernandez will also have info about internships with SAVI.
The documentary tells the story of 8 diverse women and their experience with sexual assault challenging the silence and gender stereotypes around rape.
PS--APRIL 24 is DENIM DAY, a day we protest against rape by wearing JEANS. Wear your jeans as symbol of breaking the silence, stigma and stereotypes that continue to exist around sexual violence (denim day came about as a response to a rape case that took place in Italy in 1998: the Italian Supreme Court overturned a conviction for rape and allowed a rapist to go free because it claimed that the young woman he attacked was wearing "super tight jeans" that he could not pull off himself, so she must have helped him, making it "consensual sex" !!!
