Action Alert: Tell NY City Council to Restore Funding to Anti-Sexual-Assault Programs
As you know, the sexual violence community in New York City is facing a serious crisis: The City Council eliminated all funding for sexual violence victim services and prevention programming. The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault, which has lost one-third of it's budget to this decision, is coordinating a unified response. We need your help. We need our partners, donors, supporters, volunteers and friends to urge the City Council to restore this vital funding. Those of us who work with sexual assault survivors and with at-risk communities, know that outreach, education, and prevention programming are part of a holistic strategy to ensure the safety and well-being of all New Yorkers and to change the conditions in our city which contribute to sexual violence. We must educate our public officials and urge them to restore the critical funding for the Sexual Assault Initiative. Please visit our Crisis Response Page. There, you can:
2. CallSpeaker Quinn and the City Council member in your district
3. Donate now and support the Alliance 4. Follow the Alliance's media outreach during this time of crisis Through the combined efforts of our supporters and stakeholders, we know we will survive this difficult time. Ultimately, this opportunity to educate our leaders and the public will benefit survivors and the advocacy community. Thank you for taking action on behalf of sexual violence prevention and intervention. Sincerely, Harriet Lessel Ps. In the few days that we have known about this serious crisis, we have responded with an email appeal and a phone-a-thon to raise emergency funds. We are extremely gratified by the response-we have raised over $5,000-and cannot thank you enough if you have already donated during this difficult time. We will continue to solicit emergency funds from both individual supporters as well as foundations, and hope you will take the time to visit our online crisis appeal.
