|We did it! |
Yesterday afternoon, by an overwhelming majority, the New York City Council voted in favor of Intro.371-A, legislation regulating the deceptive practices of crisis pregnancy centers. The passage of this bill is huge victory for women's reproductive health and rights, and something to be celebrated!
Women in New York City will no longer have to question whether or not they are seeing a licensed medical provider when seeking reproductive health care services. And are guaranteed to know the services they will and will not receive when walking into a crisis pregnancy center. This is not only a victory for New York women, but is also setting precedent for the rest of the country to follow suit.
A big thank you to all of you for your tireless efforts to help get this bill passed! Thank you for calling your Council Member, signing the petition, and motivating your friends and family to take action, too.
Lastly, many thanks go out to the City Council, especially Speaker Christine Quinn and lead sponsor of the bill, Council Member Jessica Lappin for standing up in support of women's reproductive health and rights and passing this groundbreaking legislation.
Today we can celebrate a tremendous victory. Congratulations!
Joan Malin, President of Planned Parenthood of New York City
