Activism works: Mayor Bloomberg signs Crisis Pregnancy Center bill into law!

This is another proof that activism works.  As members of NOW NY State Young Feminist Task Force, we did our part for the bill: going undercover to expose CPC's, attending rallies, and helping raise awareness of the issues.

This afternoon Mayor Bloomberg signed Intro.371-A, legislation regulating the deceptive practices of crisis pregnancy centers, into law!

bill signing.jpgNew York City will now be one of the few places in America where women will know exactly what to expect when entering a crisis pregnancy center (CPC). This law will go a long way in protecting the health of New York City women and teens, ensuring that they know what services they will and will not receive when walking through the doors of a CPC, and whether or not they will be seeing a licensed medical provider when seeking pregnancy related services.

This new law will benefit our clients and women all over New York City!

We thank Mayor Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and lead bill sponsor, Council Member Jessica Lappin for their continued strong advocacy for women's health. And we hope that the Mayor's actions today will inspire cities across the country to take similar steps.

Today we celebrate a tremendous victory for the women and teens of NYC.

Thank you for your incredible support and commitment to protecting women's health.

Joan Malin, President of Planned Parenthood of New York City
