Wed, 3/23: Stand with Planned Parenthood at the Staten Island Ferry

The following message is from a former Womens' Rights Coalition member at Hunter College, which is the club that helped me develop my feminist activism on campus.

Dear Friends,

Please join me in standing with Planned Parenthood tomorrow, Wednesday, March 23rd from 7:00am - 9:00am on the Manhattan side of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.  We'll hand out literature with Planned Parenthood of NYC's Activist Council to inform commuters about Congressman Grimm's vote to defund Planned Parenthood.  As you know, Congressman Grimm voted to strip Planned Parenthood of all federal funding, which would have disastrous effects on the countless women of Staten Island who rely on Planned Parenthood for their cancer screening, HIV tests, screenings for sexually transmitted infections and low-cost birth control.  We need a strong presence at the ferry terminal on Wednesday to put some pressure on Congressman Grimm and to inform Grimm's constituents about his vote against women's health.

If you don't have time to help out, make sure you stop by and say hello on your way in!

I also encourage you to sign Planned Parenthood's open letter to the Representatives who voted to defund Planned Parenthood if you haven't done so already.

Lastly, if you haven't already read my Letter to the Editor regarding Congressman Grimm's vote in the Staten Island Advance, you can check it out here: http://www.silive.com/opinion/letters/index.ssf/2011/03/vote_to_defund_planned_parenth.html

I hope to see you tomorrow morning!  Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.

Best Wishes,
Julienne Verdi
