URGE SENATORS TO SUPPORT the Military Justice Improvement Act! - on Senate floor next week

Call your Senators and Ask Them to Vote for the Military Justice Improvement Act!
November 7, 2013
Please forward widely!
The National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence supports Senator Gillibrand's efforts to add the Military Justice Improvement Act (MJIA) as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which is expected to be on the Senate Floor as early as next Wednesday, November 13.  S. 967 (MJIA) has 38 bipartisan sponsors and 47 Senate supporters but we need 13 more votes to ensure that there is no filibuster and to pass this amendment for survivors.   We have less than a week to make our calls and tweets.
Take Action NOW!

Open Letter to Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists

Dear Radical Feminists in attendance at the Shulamith Firestone Women’s Liberation Memorial Conference on What is to be Done,

I too, was gathered with you for this conference in New York City. I was excited to be involved in a consciousness raising session, and interested to hear your collective thoughts on what is to be done. I had heard the criticisms of transphobia within your movement, but naively hoped such sentiment came from a small, removed faction. As I sat among you, and your notable speakers, I realized I couldn’t have been more wrong. Transphobia and transmisogyny are alive and well within your walls. The disdain with which you referred to trans women and your collective refusal to accept them as women was shocking and horrifying. This letter is to voice what I did not have the courage, or the words to say when I was in your presence.

Rapist caught on video acquitted, supporters call local anti-rape advocate "whore"

Matthew Maldonado and Nicholas Schultz, two male schoolmates of a female martial studio student, offered to take her home because she was too drunk to drive. Instead, they repeatedly raped her as she slipped in and out of consciousness. This is caught on tape. However, one of the rapists was just acquitted and is free to continue winning martial arts tournaments (and raping other women). His supporters even called a local anti-rape activist "a whore" who is trying to get martial arts schools not to allow him to compete.
